The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office III continues to assist the victims of typhoon Glenda which occurred on July 15, 2014.

The provision of assistance is in support of the local government units (LGUs) that were adversely affected by the typhoon, said DSWD Field Office III Director Adelina S. Apostol said.

Apostol said that as of 3:00 p.m. today, the DSWD has already provided P2,371,542.50 worth of food and non-food assistance to areas affected by Glenda particularly those hardest hit areas. “This is also part of the Department’s technical assistance and resource augmentation (TARA) function to the LGUs,” Apostol added.

Disaster monitoring reports also showed that a total of P8,236,829.44 worth of relief assistance has so far been provided to the victims particularly those inside the evacuation centers.

Of the assistance extended to typhoon Glenda victims, P2,660,336.30 came from the local government units of the affected municipalities while P3,129,950.64 came from the provincial government of Bataan (P3,000,000.00), Pampanga (P12,500.00), and Zambales (P117,450.64). Some non-government organizations (NGOs) also extended P75,000.00 worth of relief assistance to the victims in the Province of Bataan.

Apostol also said that the widespread flooding spawned by the continuous rain brought by Glenda has affected six (6) provinces in Central Luzon affecting 47,726 families or 221,401 persons in 405 barangays in 48 municipalities in the region. Two hundred seventeen evacuation centers were set-up and served 7,856 families or 31,202 persons.

The typhoon left 742 families with totally damaged houses and 4,453 families with partially damaged houses. There were 111 reported casualties with 10 dead and 101 injured.

Director Apostol has assured the local government units of the Department’s continuous support particularly in the rehabilitation of the affected families especially those who were rendered homeless by the typhoon. The Department will also provide financial assistance to the bereaved families of those who lost their lives during the onslaught of Glenda.

Meanwhile, the LGUs and the DSWD Provincial Action Teams (PAT) of the affected provinces/municipalities are now conducting validation and assessment of the affected families to come up with their respective rehabilitation plans for the victims of the typhoon. ### (Evelyn T. Manalo) July 22, 2014
